Mums Top 5 Makeup Products

After a peek into my mum’s beauty cabinet, I grilled her on her top five all-time favourites and of course out came a basket of goodies. My Mother isn’t one for downsizing, so we’ve spilt it up into categories: makeup, skincare and other bits and bobs. Here’s what her top five makeup products are (plus a couple extra – don’t blame me, she couldn’t narrow it down) and stay tuned for the skincarewinging their way to you soon…

IMG_4847Naked Palette £20 here

‘I just love all the colours in this, four are quite subtle so they’re great for daytime wear but to spruce it up a bit at night I’ll add the darkest shade to make my eyes stand out more. You’ve basically got a day and night palette in one that’s really small and compact. The shades don’t have shimmer in them so it’s subtle and only if I’m going to a big event I’ll add the one lightest shimmer shade under my eyebrows. I think you’ve always got to be careful how you use shimmer when you’re more mature as it can enhance lines.’

IMG_4852MAC Margin Blush, £18 here

‘This is a beautiful colour, it’s strong, stronger than peach and I love that you can build it up. If you want little bit of colour, you can have that and if you want something more obvious, you can have that too. I normally freshen up in the bathroom and build it up before the evening.’

IMG_4851Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk £32 here

‘This is great – it gives a bit of coverage without looking too cakey and if I have any sun marks on my skin it covers them and gives a perfect complexion. I can’t be without it.’

Dr Brant Pores No More, £39 here

‘I love this!!! I put it on my t-zone and it keeps the shine away for pretty much a whole day and in fact, your makeup stays looking like its quite fresh the whole day, which is great because I don’t like using powder’

IMG_4849YSL Glossy Stain in 12, £22.50 here

‘I love the freshness of the peach colour and I like the fact that it’s not oil based so it goes on and stays on. The Boots No7 lipsticks I was using before were quite drying so I would have to put a gloss on top, this one isn’t drying, it’s sufficiently glossy already and lasts for hours.’

Mac Eyeliner in Coffee, £14 here

‘This is one is one of my staples, I wouldn’t go any where without it – I love using eyeliner on my eyes as it makes my eyes stand out. I don’t tend to use it in my waterline but at night for a function I use it to make my eyes stand out even more.’

IMG_4846Chantecaille Total Concealer, £32 here

‘I love this, it stays on all day and it doesn’t actually go into the creases when you smile and it doesn’t increase the look of lines, because some concealers settle into lines and wrinkles and make them stand out – this doesn’t do that. Plus it gives you good coverage under your eyes so all the bags don’t show’

Well that’s way over 5, perhaps I should rename this ‘Mum’s Daily Staples’, but let’s just call it proof that my Mother is amongst us beauty junkies who never can narrow it down and have always gotta have multiple choices.
